Something to Celebrate: Tiniest Pine Cones

I found these when we were out by the American River. If anyone knows what tree they fell off of, I would like to know. Maybe all pine cones start out like this and I have just never noticed. Dang, these are cute.

  1. Just a different kind of pine cone than we mississippians are used to, they're all over the NW. Maybe cypress or cedar.

  2. The cones are from the Seaside Alder {Alnus Maritima} tree. They grow in wet soil bordering rivers, streams and ponds. They are cute, aren't they! :)
